Overall Health Management
Employees are the Company’s most valuable asset. Managing stress, alleviating pressure, and enhancing employee health is as important as striving for high performance. The A7 Plant received Healthy Workplace Certification from the Health Promotion Administration, and Sports Enterprise Certification from the Sports Administration in 2023 for fostering employee care and the promotion of a healthy workforce. The Kaohsiung plant received the Excellent Healthy Workplace - Health Management Award, from the Health Promotion Administration, MOHW.
In an environment where high performance and benefit are a first priority, the goals of an organization are set to increase the work performance as well as the satisfaction of the employees, enhance their commitment to the organization, reduce their willingness to quit, and realize a final vision of the organization in sustainable development.
To ensure the overseas health promotion and protection of employees traveling abroad for business, occupational health nurses provide pre-departure health education, emphasizing the importance of hygiene and vaccination in high-risk areas at the travel destination. Employees are informed about the latest information on diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and other health risks associated with specific regions. Additionally, Chroma provides employees with travel health kits to support them in maintaining preventive measures during their trips. In 2023, the number of health education sessions for employees traveling abroad was as follows: Headquarters (including Huaya Plant): 446 sessions; Hsinchu Plant: 67 sessions; Kaohsiung Plant: 77 sessions.
Periodic Checkups and a Health Checkup Management System
Chroma carries out health checkups and management for new and current employees (as well as those engaged in special operations with potential exposure to ionizing radiation, lead, MDI, chromic acid, etc) on a regular basis and covers all the relevant costs.
Every two years, all employees undergo regular health check-ups, with employees aged 65 and above receiving annual examinations. This exceeds the legal equirements, and health check-ups are offered to employees who have been with the company for more than a year. In addition to the items mandated by regulations, additional health check-up items are included, as jointly determined by on-site occupational doctors and nurses. These additional items, such as ultrasound and bone density tests, provide employees with more comprehensive health care benefits. The frequency and scope of these check-ups surpass regulatory standards, with over 99% of eligible employees completing their check-ups. Health risk stratification is implemented based on physical and health check-up results, and corresponding health management measures are provided according to the risk level.
To safeguard employee privacy, paper health check-up records are stored in locked cabinets in the physician consultation rooms. Electronic health check-up records are stored in encrypted folders accessible only to nurses.
Health risk stratification management is done based on health check-up results and on-site physicians offer consultation. Employees who need medical attention are given registration fee waivers for designated primary clinics. Health education seminars on common health issues are conducted to provide employees with convenient access to medical resources. This enhances their willingness to seek medical care, and promotes correct health knowledge.
Additionally, to promote employee health and align with government public health policies, we conduct free annual cancer screening activities (breast, cervical, oral and colorectal cancers).
2023 In-Service Health Checkup Completion Rate
Overload Prevention Plan
In addition to the in-service health check-ups, we implement an extra health protection plan that includes prevention of overload-induced cardiovascular disease and ergonomic hazards. Consultations are done for work suitability assessment for middle-aged and older workers to provide medical and health guidance based on suitability. This includes consultations with occupational medicine specialists or health education by occupational nurses via email. Recommendations for medical referrals, psychological counseling, or job adjustments are made based on risk assessment. Regular training sessions are conducted to promote the health protection plan.
To optimize employee health care, alleviate work stress and fatigue, and create job opportunities for persons with disabilities, visually impaired massage therapists have been hired. Starting in 2023, both the Hsinchu and Kaohsiung plants have also employed visually impaired massage therapists who provide stress relief and muscle relaxation to employees twice a week. In 2023, a total of 3,749 sessions were conducted across the entire plant.
Maternity Protection Program
In 2023, 14 pregnant employees, from Company headquarters and the plants, received maternity health consultations. These were conducted by female occupational medicine specialists and occupational health nurses. Comprehensive risk assessments were made to select suitable work assignments based on workplace hazard risks, employee health status and hazard identification. Health consultations during pregnancy was also offered, including information on hazard precautions, company maternity subsidies, breastfeeding room access, and offers of mother and baby feature magazines. Additionally, all employees, regardless of gender, can receive a maternity gift upon presentation of a maternity handbook. The work environment is assessed for hazards and risks through site inspections and safety data sheets. Hazard notifications are provided according to workplace maternity health management classification.
Promoting Employee Mental Health
To promote employee mental health, we collaborate with the Taoyuan City Lifeline Association on an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Consultation services, via phone and email, are available from 09:00 to 21:00 on working days. Consultation topics include stress, anxiety, depression, family/parenting issues, interpersonal communication, and emotional relationships. One-on-one consultations with therapists can be arranged after evaluation. Monthly psychological health news is
posted on the iHealth website to provide diverse support channels for employees’ mental well-being. In 2023, we held stress-relief gardening workshops during Mother’s Day and Christmas, allowing employees to enjoy therapeutic activities and enhance their mental well-being.
2023 Hsinchu Branch Mental Health Promotion Activity - What is Psychological Counseling? With the guidance of a psychologist, employees are introduced to the benefits of psychological counseling, dispelling myths and doubts about counseling, clarifying common misconceptions, and the avoidance of stigmatization. The company also provides an Employee Assistance Program so that an employee confronting psychological distress will know where to seek professional help.
