For the third consecutive year, Chroma ATE enthusiastically participated in "Project Blue" organized by Taiwanese periodical Business Today. Through its annual beach cleaning initiatives, the company strives to deepen its employees' awareness of the importance of environmental sustainability. This year, the campaign took place on the eve of Earth Day, and Chroma was invited to share its achievements and efforts in environmental sustainability.

Environmental Sustainability Education – Taking Root

Alex Chuang, Vice Executive Director of the ESG Office at Chroma, emphasized that promoting foundational education on environmental sustainability is one of the core objectives of the Chroma Foundation. Since the company's first participation in beach cleaning activities over four years ago, more than four hundred employees and their families have joined the cause, removing over one ton of marine debris – a remarkable result! Inspired by the beach cleaning, employees have started bringing their own eco-friendly cups when getting their morning coffee. The activity also imparted wisdom to the younger participants, leading some to urge their parents to stop using plastic straws! This goes to show how events like this can bring environmental awareness to the next generation, making it a part of the family’s dinner table conversation.

Accelerating Industry Carbon Reduction with Our "Carbon Handprint"

In addition to environmental sustainability, Chroma has set five major sustainability goals: technology and product innovation, responsible supply chain and manufacturing, social impact, and a friendly and healthy workplace. Given Chroma’s core business in test and measurement, we are actively developing measurement technology and test equipment that enhance energy efficiency. For example, our energy recycling technology in power electronics equipment enables the conversion of thermal energy from waste heat back into electrical energy, significantly reducing energy waste. Between 2020 and 2022, Chroma’s regenerative test equipment sales have cumulatively reduced carbon emissions by 138,072 metric tons, equivalent to the carbon reduction achieved by over three hundred New York City Central Parks. The company also encourages employees to develop products that contribute to ESG performance by introducing the "Chroma Green Label". This involves making equipment ‘smarter’ and reducing its energy consumption.

The concept of the "carbon handprint" was originally proposed by the Finnish VTT Technical Research Centre with the support of the Climate Leadership Alliance. In contrast to the negative connotations of the "carbon footprint", it emphasizes the greater impact of positive actions taken to combat climate change and reduce emissions. Chroma’s test solutions serve as a "carbon handprint" by assisting customers in carbon reduction and providing regenerative products. We hope our contributions can play a pivotal and enduring role in climate change mitigation efforts.
